Structure, Sign and Play
Across this series of 29 prints, the image frame and pictorial grid provide formal structures that help facilitate a dialogue between what is seen inside the image and what is known, assumed or thought to exist outside of it.
Situated in the Dorset village I grew up in, this project draws connections with Jacques Derrida's essay 'Structure, Sign and Play' – in which, he states there can be no fixed and final meaning. There is only a "play of presence and absence", between all that has been, and all that is yet to come.
